Disney cut 1,900 jobs at domestic parks
Disney today, 3 April 09 said it eliminated about 1,900 jobs at its domestic theme parks through job cuts and attrition.
Disney said it would lay off about 1,200 people and leave about 700 positions unfilled. The bulk of the cuts will happen at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., where about 1,400 jobs will be eliminated. About 300 jobs will be cut from the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, with the remaining reductions coming from corporate headquarters in Burbank.
Disney employs about 80,000 people in its parks and resorts unit.

April 4, 2009 DES MOINES, Iowa - A layoff by Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. is affecting Iowa. Officials say 16 information technology workers in Des Moines are included in the company's decision to cut 480 jobs across the country. Nationwide spokesman Eric Hardgrove says the layoffs were announced and took effect on Friday.
The Columbus-based corporation has eliminated about 3,00 jobs nationally over the past two years. The insurance giant lost $342 million last year as the industry dealt with claims from a high number of hurricanes and a sharp drop in investment returns.
Nationwide is the parent company of Des Moines-based Allied Group. It employs approximately 4,000 in the Des Moines area.

Bombardier Aerospace to cut 3,000 jobs, or about 10 percent of its work force
Canada's Bombardier Aerospace said Thursday it is cutting 3,000 jobs, or about 10 percent of its work force, because the demand for its business aircraft has deteriorated rapidly and is expected to remain weak for the foreseeable future.
The company said it now expects to deliver approximately 25 percent fewer business aircraft this fiscal year.
The layoffs are in addition to the 1,360 job cuts announced Feb. 5 when Bombardier adjusted the production rates of its Learjet and Challenger aircraft.

O2 UK to cut 160 call centre jobs
Telefonica SA's U.K. mobile unit, O2, said it will cut around 160 jobs at its call centers as part of a planned restructuring of customer service roles.
